Lose weight while you sleep

Statistics say that 70 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep loss. For adults that’s an average sleeping time of 7 hours a night. New research found that sleep deprivation is the cause to weight gain, even obesity. You can learn how to sleep your way to skinny in just a few simple steps.

Are you sleeping too little and eating too much? Decreased sleep will spike the hormone ghrelin that stimulates your appetite. So you can actually eat up to 300 calories more a day with less sleep. Over time 300 calories will turn into 30 lbs. a year. When people are sleep deprived they’re metabolism slows down and their cortisol raises, this means increased appetite. So what do you end up doing when you get a little hungry? Yes, you start snacking. Also when you’re sleep deprived you don’t get enough REM sleep- deep sleep. This is when you lose the most of your calories. Then there is Hormones which have a dramatic effect on weight gain and loss.

Steps to take to help sleep better at night

There are a few steps you can take to help you get better sleep at night as well as being able to shed some weight while you sleep.

For your body:

Step 1: Calculate your body’s best bedtime or when you usually go to sleep
• Determine your normal wake up time
• Count back 7 ½ hours
• Set your alarm clock to go to bed

Step 2: Supplement with Calcium & Magnesium
• Natural Sleep Aids
• Take 600mg Calcium & 400mg Magnesium

Step 3: Tame your tummy with antacids (chewable antacid tablets are good)
• Take with dinner
• This helps for silent reflex

Step 4: Sip a combo Tea for sleep
• Valerian Root
• Passion Flower
• Combine the 2 teas listed above: 1 bag of valerian root tea bag & 1 bag of passion flower tea bag. Brew them together and drink the tea. It works wonders to calm your nerves and get sleepy before bed.

For your room:

Step 1: Use a foam core pillow
• Chang your pillow to one that will support your neck

Step 2: Use eye shades and ear plugs
• Something to cover your eyes and ears if your partner isn’t ready to go to bed

Step 3: Use a sound machine
• A machine that plays white noise sound or natural noises

So just a recap to getting you started on losing weight while you sleep, remember to combo your tea with valerian root and passion flower for a better night sleep. Try a foam core pillow to help release tension off your neck by supporting the curve from the neck to the occipital bone on the back of your head. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep. You really need at least 8 hours to get your REM sleep helping you lose 30 lbs a year. Even try in the morning to eat 30g of protein within 30 minutes of waking up, something like omelet with turkey bacon. These are all great changes to make to help weight loss while you sleep. If you make the changes you will see a difference but it’s up to you to make the initial effort.

Goof advice, I had never really considered it, but it makes sense ... not to mention all those extra coffee calories when you are tired!

SOCIALLY SHARED and voted up.

I definitely see a connection with sleep and hunger in my life. I crave all sorts of after dinner snacks when I am tired. This good advice is voted up.

I have been reading and hearing a lot about this lately. Good advice! Turning off the computer a little earlier in the evening would also help. I'm guilty of staying up too late sometimes because of that. Voted up and useful.

I was curious to see if it worked and it does. I lost 5 lbs in 2 days. Just for getting in bed an hour earlier than usual. I'm a snacker at night who stays on the computer, so this was helpful for myself. Thanks so much for the love.

Great advice. How I would love to lose weight while I slept. I am a the type of person who wakes up several times a night and can't easily get back to slepp. How wonderful it would be to get a good night's sleep and maybe lose an ounce or two.

Fine article, Up and useful. Add in your own research on melatonin (very helpful for seniors) and not just a key to the REM sleep, but also the body's most effective antioxidant. Use the time-release type so you aren't fully rested at 4 AM! 2.5-5.0 mg is a good choice. I also recommend it, if you are faced with a shortened night's sleep, or jet lag.
