Prevent A Cold

How do I get sick

The organ that catches a cold is called the Lymph nodes. It’s the little bumps around your neck that cause you to get a sore throat. So you need to know what steps to take to lower your chances of getting a cold.

First understanding how it works. The red vessels carry everything through the body to the tissue. Most people think that it’s carried back up the body through the blue vessels (veins) but that’s not true. When “stuff” is carried through the blood vessels there is so called “garbage” that is left behind, that’s called the Lymph. See there is the veins, the arteries and last is the Lymph, it’s the 3rd system that makes sure whatever the veins can’t keep up with, it picks up that junk and carries it away. Now Lymph nodes are the tiny balls that connect the Lymph like a stretchy spider web throughout your body, surrounding your veins. The Lymph nodes swell to protect the body from getting sick. It’s like when your throat swells when you’re starting to get sick, those balls in your throat that are connected to the Lymph are swelling which causes a sore throat. It helps to massage the neck area, not to rough but massage the area that is swollen.

How to keep from getting sick

Now there are two recommended ways by homeopathic doctors to prevent getting a cold. The first is Elderberry Extract; mix- 1 tbsp of Elderberry Extract with 8 ounces of water (4x a day). It doesn’t taste bad at all so don’t worry. If you like fruit punch you will like this tasty drink. Second, are Zinc Lozenges; you can find them at your local store in the medicine aisle. There are really good for you with the benefit of protecting you from getting a cold.

If you are getting sick or already have a complete cold I have some remedies for you as well don’t worry. The average length of a cold is a week and a half and during this time it’s hard to do a lot of normal activities. But these remedies are recommended by well known doctors.

Sore Throat, Sneezing, Runny and Stuffy Nose

Find your symptom and try the coordinating solution.

Stuffy Nose: Use a nasal spray- simple saline solution. Look for purified water and sodium chloride in it. The sodium chloride (salt) actually dries it out.

Sneezing and Runny Nose: Look for a medicine that has antihistamine in it and will last 4-6 hours. Do not attempt to drive after taking any medication with these contents in them, the medicine will make you drowsy.

Sore Throat: Take Ibuprofen, it reduces inflammatory in the throat. Anytime you have any swelling at all for anything take ibuprofen.

Cough

There are 2 types of coughs so make sure you pick out the right medication for your specified symptom.

Dry Hacking Cough: Buy a cough suppressant, it usually has DM on the label (make sure you look for it on the label). It also has to last 12 hours; do not buy the 4 hour one, you need long-term for relief and it stops the cough reflex.

Wet Cough: Buy a cough expectorant, this thins out the mucus and clears up your airways which then relieves your cough. Make sure you drink lots of water too.

Headaches- pain in head

Headaches come in many forms but each one has a different treatment to make it better.

Tension Headache: Tension headaches are in the forehead and feel like a vise. The solution for this is mixing some ginger and water together, such as brewing tea with both ingredients.

Cluster Headache: Cluster headaches feel like an ice pick in your eye. It’s found to be more common in males. The solution for this is to dab a little Capsaicin Cream inside your nostril, on the side just put a little, then breath in through your nose. It’s a little intense but it will work.

Migraine Headache: A Migraine headache is on one side of the head in throbbing pain. Some will be sensitive to light and sound. The solution for this is use Feverfew; a member of the Sunflower family has been known to reduce headaches, especially migraines. It will reduce inflammation which is causing the throbbing pain.

Acupuncture

Learning other alternatives to medicine, when you are in pain, sick, or down is the best remedy. Another simple alternative to ridding yourself of any type of headache is acupuncture. This one is simple, place your index finger and thumb, on top and bottom of your foot, between the big toe and the second toe, putting pressure for 10-15 seconds then letting go. Wait a little bit to see if your headache lightens up if still there do it again.

See if any of these remedies work for you. I was fortunate that the acupuncture really worked for me when I get small migraines. Hope your headache goes away and you get well soon. Stay healthy and drink Elderberry Extract to prevent getting a cold. Stay well, keep these tips in a place with easy access so you know the ways to prevent getting sick.
